For taller ceilings many fan manufacturers suggest dropping a ceiling fan all the way down to 8 to 9 feet from floor level. Check the packaging to see if the downrod is included and note the size.

For example if your ceiling is 12 feet high and your ceiling fan is 12 inches in height you will need a 24 inch downrod to mount the ceiling fan between eight and nine feet above the floor. Hunter fans are compatible with single threaded downrods while hunter original fans require a double threaded downrod.
